Why Create a Supporting Players© Troupe?
Supporting Players Troupes provide their communities with powerful educational programs that impact the lives of the people who view them and the students who create them. Many schools and communities are searching for more effective ways to engage and reach out to their youth. At the same time, their young people are looking for meaningful ways to express themselves. Theater and improvisational storytelling are fundamental forms of human expression that build character, instill confidence and a create a sense of community.
What is the Supporting Players© Training?
The training is a two day intensive workshop. Your students will be guided through a creative process that helps them build performance skills, bond as a team, and create moving, entertaining skits designed to be presented in your community. They learn the basics of: building a character, improvising short scenes, and effectively staging them.
How do I start a Supporting Players© Troupe?
You can implement the program with a group that is already in existence. Cornerstone has trained youth involved in: SADD, TATU, AODA, 4-H, Key Club, Yellow Ribbon, Builders Club, Peer Helpers & Mentors, Community Ed, Service Clubs-and groups involved in preventing suicide and teen pregnancy. Or, you could start a new extracurricular youth group from scratch. Many of the the troupes trained by Cornerstone were initiated by a student, counselor, or faculty member who was inspired to begin a new program.
